Think the ECU measures the voltage when the EGR opens and closes and knows its not working. If I unplug the EGR it gives a fault code for high voltage. (And runs quite poorly) but the p1412 frozen EGR code doesn't reappear. Yeah that's right, blanking it won't help if the electronic part is faulty.

I have a 2010 Focus 1.6 TDCI and I'm looking for some help diagnosing some EGR troubles. It started a couple of months ago when the car wouldn't start, with an 'engine malfunction', which the local garage had diagnosed as the EGR stuck open. I had the EGR valve replaced and thought that would be I had read about the PCM update somewhere - there was also talk about it improving fuel consumption. I think it may well be worth a shot if things don't improve. Interestingly, if I put the car in neutral and rev it at around the 1500rpm range, it runs perfectly, no judder, no fluctuating revs, no rough running at all.
