IF these engines are run on 0W-20 VW 508 00 and that's too thin it'd be easy to just run what's used on other markets in them - 0/5W-30 VW 504 00. HTHS ≥3.5 instead of ~2.7. Problem solved. Personally I'd use that anyway. That said I never heard any 1.4 TSI knocking.
